The Microsoft 70-411 certification exam is for Windows Server 2012 (Administering). The exam is intended for individuals wanting to demonstrate the ability to work with Windows (2012 Server R2) as a certified Microsoft associate. The 70-411 is part of three exams that test knowledge and skills of an individual to the related tasks. Certification will validate a foundation of core technical skills and prepares an individual for a sustainable IT career. For the 70-411 exam it is necessary for a person to administer a Windows Server 2012 substructure in an enterprise environment and finishing all 3 exams will lead to a MCSA designation certification. Individuals for this exam should have hands-on experience managing and securing windows servers, user and group accounts, data, and networks.
Why is this exam required?
Although an individual stand-alone exam the 70-462 is part of three individual assessments that individuals will need to fully complete to become a MCSA Microsoft certified professional. Upon achieving passing percentage grades for all three examinations the certification will be awarded.
To become a MCSA certified professional, you will need to complete 3 full exams of which 70-462 Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 is one.
The MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification is based on Windows Server 2012 technology and is a prerequisite to several other exams such as:

Objectives of the exam:
The exam is divided into 6 core separate subject areas that have varying weighted percentage in the examination (see enclosed amounts below). The purpose of each distinct area is to ensure the different elements of server practice is fully covered in rounded whole. Each area establishes a different topic and it is critical that each focus area as a full subject is fully understood by the individual taking the assessment.
- Management, deployment and maintanance of servers (15-20%)
Candidates are required to describe how to deploy and manage server images (WDS), demonstrate how to perform patch management implementation (WSUS) and how to monitor servers.
- File and print services configuration (15-20%)
Candidates are required to describe how a distributed file system is configured (DFS) and File Server Resource Manager (FSRM). Candidates are required to describe configuring the encryption for disks and files using BitLocker encryption and EFS recovery agent. Candidates should also demonstrate ability to configure advanced policies for auditing.
- Network services and access configuration (15-20%)
Candidates are required to describe and primary and secondary DNS zones configuratiob. Candidates are also required to show how to create, identify and configure DNS Resource Records (RR), including A, SOA, AAAA, NS,PTR, SRV, CNAME and MX records.
Candidates are required to configure virtual private networks (VPN) and direct access certificates.
- Network policy server (NPS) infrastructure configuration (10-15%)
Candidates are required to configure a RADIUS server, including RADIUS proxy, NPS policies and (NAP).
- Active Directory- Configuration and management (10-15%)
Candidates are required to describe authentication of the service, domain controllers, and account policies. Candidates are required to demonstrate maintaining active directory.
- Group Policy – Configuration and management (15-20%)
Candidates are required to show knowledge of set-up of Policy processing (group), Group Policy settings (Group), Policy objects – Group (GPOs), and Group Policy preferences (GPP), including power options, printers, custom registry, mappings for network drive settings, settings for Control Panels, and settings for Internet Explorer.
